Compensation Cycle Proration Configuration

Compensation Cycles can have automated proration enabled to assist with new employees or those on leave of absence. This article explains how automated proration works.

Enabling the Feature

  1. Navigate to Settings > HR Setup > Compensation Management > Compensation Setup
  2. Click the pencil to edit the compensation cycle
  3. In the Compensation Cycle Prorate Configuration Widget, mark the checkbox to enable this feature and and choose the correct date
    1. From Date: the beginning of the prorate period
    2. To Date: the last day of the prorate period
    3. Employee Pro-rate Date: the employee date to determine the prorate percent
    4. LOA Check: mark this box if the system should review leave of absense days during the cycle.
  4. Once enabled, the prorated amounts will show up on the Proposals to Finalize report

How it Works (without LOA Check)

The following is an example without the LOA Check:

  • From Date: 01/01/2017

  • To Date: 12/31/2017

  • Employee Pro-rate Date: Date Hired (05/01/2017)

  • LOA Check: No

  • Total Days between 01/01/2017 - 12/31/2017 = 365

  • Total Days between 05/01/2017 - 12/31/2017 = 245 days

  • 245/365 = 0.6712

  • To get from decimal to percent 0.6712 * 100 = 67.12

  • To round to the nearest whole value = 67%

How it Works (with LOA Check)

The following is an example with the LOA Check:

  • From Date: 01/01/2017

  • To Date: 12/31/2017

  • Employee Pro-rate Date: Date Hired (05/01/2017)

  • LOA Check: Yes

  • Total Days between 01/01/2017 - 12/31/2017 = 365

  • Total Days between 05/01/2017 - 12/31/2017 = 245 days

  • LOA Check shows that the employee was on LOA for 30 days
  • (245-30)/365 = 0.5890

  • To get from decimal to percent 0.5890 * 100 = 58.90

  • To round to the nearest whole value = 59%
